Now you can read about Archive of Lost Tails – an ongoing project where I redraw historical depictions of horses with docked or tied tails. The project is currently on display at Skissernas Museum until November 2, 2025.
The project began when I noticed something I didn’t understand in Rosa Bonheur’s The Horse Fair (1852), namely two horses with their tails tied. Or maybe they were cut? That moment opened up a long investigation into how and why horses tails and tailbones have been cut and how the violent practice of horse tail docking can be traced in art history.
